Vintage Late 1980s P.S. Gitano High Rise Western Yoke Jeans

WHY THESE CAME HOME

These almost stayed behind.

At $24 they were a gamble, especially with the paint splatters. But I’d never seen a pair of Gitanos designed quite like this. The pointed front yoke and angled pockets immediately caught my eye, and I kept picking them back up.

I don’t know if these are for a vintage collector, an artist, or someone who simply appreciates unusual denim. I only know they felt too interesting to leave behind.

CURATOR’S OBSERVATIONS

The first thing I noticed was the construction. The dramatic front yoke and angled pockets give these jeans an almost western feel while still looking surprisingly modern.

The deep indigo wash has softened just enough, but it hasn’t yet developed the heavy fading you see on many vintage pairs. It feels like a pair of jeans with many years still ahead of it.

One little detail that made me smile is the stitching left behind where the original retail tag once lived. Whoever bought these apparently did what I often do: pulled the tag off in a hurry and never went back to remove the threads. It’s a tiny detail, but I love finding those little traces of ordinary life.

The paint marks won’t be for everyone, but they feel honest to me. They aren’t decorative distressing. They’re simply evidence that these jeans were worn.
