CURATOR OBSERVATIONS:
When I am buying for the shop one thing I try to do is take the societal temperature for the cyclical nature of fashion. Are we ready for this again and in what form? Vibrant folk skirt? Yes, I think so. Imagine, this with an over sized denim jacket.
One thing I pay attention to while sourcing is the rhythm of fashion. Styles rarely disappear forever. They simply wait for the right moment to return.
Right now feels like the return of joyful dressing.
This skirt has all the ingredients: saturated color, folk-inspired print, generous volume, and movement that refuses to be ignored. Throw on an oversized denim jacket, a faded band tee, or a crisp white blouse and suddenly it feels completely current again.
WHY I BROUGHT IT HOME
While in Austin, my friends new boyfriend wanted to thrift for a new dresser, so I tagged along. I saw this skirt hanging in a sea of polyester, the quality stood out like a sore thumb, or what is the positive way to say that? A parrot in a murder of crows? The quarter in a bowl of Pennies? A true gem, a rare piece to help you dress authentic Ll and stand out in a crowd.
While I was in Austin, my friend’s new boyfriend wanted to hunt for a dresser at the thrift store. I happily tagged along.
This skirt was hanging in a sea of ordinary polyester when it quietly announced itself.
Not loudly.
Confidently.
Like spotting a painted folk house on an otherwise ordinary street.
The fabric had weight. The print had intention. Even before I looked closely, I knew someone had cared when this was made.
Those are the pieces I love finding. Clothing with enough personality that it doesn’t need to shout.
